Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is a Telugu action drama released on July 31, 2025. The story is set partly in the 1990s and follows Soori (Vijay Deverakonda), a constable who goes undercover to find his missing brother Shiva (Satyadev), believed to be involved with a powerful smuggling cartel in Sri Lanka. The film explores whether the two brothers will reunite or find themselves on opposite sides of the law.
The movie grabs attention with its visuals and action sequences. Standout moments include a tense bridge fight and some gripping chase scenes, which add excitement and energy to an otherwise familiar narrative. Gowtam Tinnanuri’s direction offers a gritty, visually arresting world, while the cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and Jomon T. John creates a unique atmosphere for the film.
Vijay Deverakonda gives a restrained and sincere performance, portraying a character torn between duty and brotherly love. Satyadev’s portrayal as Shiva is equally impactful, though his character feels underexplored. Venkitesh as the villain Murugan brings a menacing presence, making his scenes particularly powerful. Bhagyashri Borse, however, gets limited scope in her role as Dr. Madhu.
The film’s emotional core, centered on brotherhood and the quest for redemption sometimes gets overshadowed by the expansive plot and action. Some viewers might feel the movie lacks deep emotional engagement and that the second half drags in places. The background score by Anirudh Ravichander supports the film’s tone but doesn’t stand out as especially memorable.
Despite its flaws, “Kingdom” is a well-mounted film with solid performances and decent production values. While the emotional arc isn’t explored as deeply as it could be, the movie still delivers an engaging action drama, especially for Vijay Deverakonda’s fans. It may not be a groundbreaking film but offers a good mix of action and visual flair for audiences seeking an entertaining watch.
